Morriston, Swansea with kids: play, swimming and holiday sport

Toys and ride-ons arranged in Morriston Memorial Hall for the Beginnings toddler group
The Mission Church, Morriston

Morriston has useful family activities of its own: a baby-and-toddler morning at the Memorial Hall, preschool play at Libanus Church on Market Street, and swimming, gymnastics and holiday sport at Morriston Leisure Centre. The choice changes with a child’s age. Babies can start with toys and stories beside their grown-ups, while primary-age children can work on water confidence, balance or team games. Pick the actual group or booked activity first, then plan the journey to its named venue; a Swansea-wide calendar can otherwise send you to another neighbourhood.

Start small at the Memorial Hall

Beginnings Baby & Toddler Group is a practical option for families with children from birth to four. The Mission Church runs it in Morriston Memorial Hall, on Heol Gwernen off Chemical Road, opposite the rugby club. The owner advertises Wednesdays from 9am to 11am during the school term. This is a stay-with-your-child morning, with parents, grandparents and carers welcome.

There are ride-ons, soft play, a slide and a bouncy castle, a baby area and a craft area. The morning has its own rhythm: story time at 10.15am, snacks at 10.25am and goodbye time at 10.55am. Entry is £2 per family, including children’s snacks and adults’ tea and coffee. Check the current school term before travelling rather than assuming the group meets during half term.

The guide photograph comes from the group’s own gallery and shows the hall set up with toys before a session. It is a historical setup photograph, not a promise of the exact equipment arrangement at your next visit.

Try a preschool morning on Market Street

Libanus Tots meets at Libanus Church on Market Street, with a Friday start advertised at 9.30am. Preschool children come with a parent or carer. Toys are ready for free play, followed by stories, crafts, games and songs. Breakfast is provided for children, and there are hot drinks and toast for grown-ups.

Ask secretary@libanuschurch.com about the current group, any charge and holiday changes. Free play describes the activity, not a verified free-admission claim. The group is not advertised as drop-off childcare, so plan to stay.

The church’s Sunday services are a separate choice, open to all at 10.30am and 6pm, with a children’s talk as part of the service. Family days around Christmas, Easter and summer need their own current announcement; the existence of a seasonal tradition does not establish a particular forthcoming date.

  • Libanus Church, Morriston

A Market Street church with preschool play and open Sunday services that include a children’s talk.

  • Libanus Tots

A preschool morning of toys, stories, crafts, games and songs, with breakfast for children.

Choose the pool session, not just the opening hours

Morriston Leisure Centre on Heol Maes Eglwys has a 25-metre pool, changing facilities, showers and a poolside hoist. Family offers include Aqua Tots, fun floats, inflatables and public swimming. Pick the actual session in the current timetable: the building being open does not mean every part of the pool programme is running.

The supervision ratios matter when planning a trip with siblings. Children aged three and under need an adult each. For ages four to seven, one adult can supervise two children. Children eight and over may swim unaccompanied, but a child who is not a confident swimmer still needs supervision whatever their age.

The swimming page says normal public and lane swims no longer require advance booking; designated free under-16 swims can be booked up to eight days ahead. Check the selected session and accompanying adults’ charges rather than treating every family swim as free. Bring swimwear, a towel and a padlock for the locker. Rash vests are permitted, but T-shirts are not. Parking is free while using the centre.

Build swimming confidence or try gymnastics

The swim school accepts children from three months old and follows the Swim Wales pathway. Bubbles and Splash lessons need an adult in the water each week. Inclusive group lessons and tailored one-to-one support are advertised; ask which approach suits your child and remain available to help with toilet visits. Home Portal lets families follow progress.

Rise Explore gymnastics has separate groups for ages four to five and six to eight, with Thursday and Saturday patterns on the owner page. Lessons work on balance, stability, mobility and flexibility. Those patterns describe the programme, not individually confirmed holiday sessions.

Both swim-school and gymnastics memberships are paid by direct debit and run for fifty weeks, pausing at Christmas. Obtain the complete current membership charge and joining terms before enrolling. Included swimming is a membership benefit, not free lessons, and badges or certificates can be optional purchases. The separately advertised October gymnastics taster has conflicting age guidance, so confirm its age requirement with the centre before relying on it.

Plan the actual October half-term booking

The owner’s booking calendar advertises multi-sports camp on 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 October 2026 for ages five to twelve, from 8.30am to 3.30pm. Choose an individual day at the advertised £18.20 per child. Activities may include football, dodgeball, badminton, athletics and team games.

Pack a refillable water bottle and lunch, suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. The provider also lists sun cream and a hat, and swimming costume, towel and goggles for children eight and over. Sports equipment is provided. Do not assume late collection is available: the retained £6 late-pick-up add-on is unpublished. Book the actual day and check the full current booking terms before paying.

Halloween Bounce and Play is a shorter option for ages zero to eight: 27 and 30 October 2026, 9.30–10.30am, with a bouncy castle, spooky games and fancy dress. The advertised individual child ticket is £6 per session. Both dates had places in the retained booking observation, but that is not a guarantee of stock when you book.

The camp and Bounce and Play sessions are both at Morriston Leisure Centre. Choose a full active day for a primary-age child, or the shorter bouncing session for a younger child, rather than assuming the same booking suits every sibling. Use the current activity links for booking and recheck before setting off.
