Bishopsworth with children: skatepark play, stories and family events

Bishopsworth offers very different ways to spend time together: Campus Pool turns a former swimming pool into an indoor skatepark, while St Peter’s brings families together for puppets, crafts and Christian worship. Along Bishopsworth Road in Bedminster Down, the neighbourhood library and On The Hill café add Lego, stories, music and family events. Choose a session for your child’s age and confidence, from toddler play on balance bikes to a bookable holiday dance party.

Choose the right Campus Pool session

Campus Pool is an indoor skatepark in the former Bishopsworth swimming pool on Whitchurch Lane. It has a concrete street-style park and a separate birch-ply beginner area. Pick the session by your child’s age and confidence rather than buying a general session and hoping it fits.

Toddler Takeover is unstructured play for ages five and under using scooters, skateboards or balance bikes; bikes with pedals are excluded. It costs £6.50 for an hour: “free play” does not mean free admission. Junior Mashup is for ages 4–9, while Junior Session is for ages 6–11. Adults can support children in the junior sessions but cannot take part.

Holiday Skate Club is for ages 7–12, costs £47 for a 10:00–16:00 day and does not include lunch. Helmets are mandatory. For customer parking, register your car on an entrance iPad. The site is normally closed on Mondays.

Find music, stories and a family event at On The Hill

The stone former church on Bishopsworth Road is now On The Hill, previously Zion Community Space. This community-owned café and venue in Bedminster Down hosts children’s music, sensory stories and family events, as well as food and drink. The photograph shows its exterior, not a particular event.

Melody Makers separates babies and younger toddlers from ages 2–5 in two Tuesday music sessions. Stacy’s Sensory Story Time combines books, sensory activities, Makaton and singing for children aged four and under on Thursdays. Both are advertised at £4, paid on the day. Friday Family Time is a separate free regular programme; ticketed special events have their own charges.

School-holiday dance parties and Lego events use the venue’s dated programme. Some events happen outside ordinary café hours, so follow that event’s own ticket and arrival instructions. Café food is served Tuesday to Friday until 14:00; it is not a seven-day drop-in venue.

Keep a smaller books-and-building plan

Bishopsworth Library is on Bishopsworth Road in Bedminster Down. It offers books and children’s activities, with Saturday Lego Club advertised for ages 4–10 and an accompanying adult. The Lego session is free and does not need booking.

The branch normally opens Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Its outside ramp has railings and may be too narrow for a large wheelchair or mobility scooter; check with the library if that affects your visit.

Know what to expect at St Peter’s

St Peter’s on Church Road offers explicitly Christian family activities. Bubble Church uses puppets, songs, stories and prayer for babies, toddlers and young families; Messy Church combines worship, craft tables and food. Book the advertised date rather than assuming the older general timetable applies to every month.

Coffee Pot toddler mornings currently ask families to email about a waiting list. Its suggested donations are optional, while refreshments are priced separately. A programme page is useful for understanding the activity, but a place on a waiting list is not an available session.
