About this outing

The Hunterian Art Gallery is on Hillhead Street beside the University Library. Free entry and a family-friendly trail make it an option for a self-paced visit with children. Works on display include Whistler, Mackintosh, Rembrandt, Rubens, the Glasgow Boys and Scottish Colourists, with contemporary art and changing exhibitions. Look for family-friendly labels and children’s portable steps. An Art Explorer’s Apron contains sensory items and a sketchbook for young neurodivergent visitors or anyone who benefits from a focus or calming activity. Opening is Tuesday–Sunday 10am–5pm; check the notices for temporary and holiday closures. There is a ramp to the ground floor and a lift to the basement and first-floor Gallery 2. Toilet cubicles have limited manoeuvring space and may not suit every wheelchair. The Mackintosh House within the gallery has separate admission charges and stair restrictions.
