About this outing
The free museum follows local life from prehistoric times to the modern day through archaeology, costume, fine art and social history. Highlights include Lord Rosebery’s hansom cab, a nineteenth-century fire engine and finds from local Roman sites. The museum floor opens Monday to Saturday 09:30–17:00. The main collection and exhibition galleries are on the first floor: Bourne Hall currently reports that its lift is out of service. Contact the venue before travelling if step-free access is essential; ground-floor access to the library and café does not establish access upstairs.
